I didn’t think it would happen to me. But it did.
Domestic violence is one of the most prevalent problems in today’s society, yet almost no one speaks out about it.
In the Diary of the Abused I will be exploring these issues. Fair warning, I’m by no means a psychologist (although I am a biologist), this is just my personal account using my experiences as examples and the things I’ve learned along the way.
I do this in the hopes that it may change someones life, reach someone who is not aware, or just want to know they aren’t alone.
I will attempt to use as many neutral terms as I can, but sometimes ‘he’ (as the abuser) and ‘she’ (as the abused) is unavoidable.
Call 000 if you are in an emergency. Otherwise see helpful resources, there are many services dedicated to helping the abused, specialized counselling and legal services. The most important thing is your safety.
Just remember, you’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think – my favourite quote from Christopher Robin.
